Past

In the beginning, it was just Arawn's people in the land of the Celts. They carved themselves a wonderful existence within these lands, and existed for countless years unaware that there were other people in other lands. These people slowly made their way into the lands of Arawn's people, and settle there. They could see that Arawn's people were different than they were. His people had powers and abilities that these new comers did not possess nor did they die of old age. It was this that lead the newcomers to decide that Arawn's people were divine beings and worship them as such.

They lived this way from many eons until other beings similar to them found their way into the lands of the Celts. The newcomers wanted to convince the Celts to worship them instead of Arawn's people, but Arawn's people had no desire to give up their place on top. A great war broke out between the two groups, and was fought until the newcomers managed to push Arawn's people into another realm called Annwyvn. It was during this time that Arawn and his twin sister Maeve ascended to the throne of Annwyvn. They had been trained from the moment of birth to rule their people, and they were expecting their parents to eventually step down from the throne. The day they would become king and queen of their people came sooner than they expected, but not in the manner they thought. Their parents were killed in the great war.

It was these deaths along with the overall victory that lead the newcomer to declare that Arawn's people were false gods, and demanded that the Celts denounce them. The Celts would not have this. They believed that Arawn's people were gods, and nothing these newcomers tried would convince them otherwise. In spite, being banished to another realm Arawn's people could influence their lives just as well as any deity. The Celts continued to worshiped them much in the same manner they had before they were banished into Annwvyn. There were a few Celts, however, that turned their alliance to the newcomers, worshiping them instead but no matter what they tried they couldn't gain a foothold into the Celtic lands like they hoped.

Countless years drifted by, and during this time mortals begun to move away from the old ways. They begun to neglect the old traditions, rituals and offerings towards their gods. This fact upset Maeve greatly. She believed something had to be done to remind mortals of their place. This was a sentiment that Arawn didn't share. He saw no harm in mortals moving away from the old ways, and as such he and his sister ended up fighting over the entire issue. It was a fight that ended up with Arawn banishing his sister from court. This worked out fine for Maeve, whom decided to create her own court. She had those who agreed with her sentiment join her as well as those fae who did not live up their people strict standard of beauty.

It was within this moment that the Seelie and Unseelie courts that mortals often associated with the fae was born. The unseelie court is known as the court of darkness, where many of the grotesque fae reside, and for their more malice attitude towards mortal. The seelie court, on the other hand, is know as the court of light, where many of the more beautiful fae reside, and for their more playful attitude towards mortal. Many mortals tend not to enjoy the games that the seelie fae play with them, but they prefer to cross path with them rather than their unseelie brethren. Mortals are more likely to survive an encounter with a seelie fae alive than an unseelie one.

Both courts are known to abduct mortals and bring them into their lands. Through, they differ in their method. The unseelie tend to just take the mortals they like while the seelie will trick the mortal in agreeing to come stay with them. It is why mortals have tales that warns against entering fairy rings and drinking fairy wine as well as tales to ward fae away from them and their homes. In spite, their differences the two courts seem to balance each other out, and many believe that dividing into two courts was what the fae needed. They believe that if they continued going along as one court that the fae would have ended up destroying themselves.

Present

The years drifted by until the world found itself into the modern age. Arawn and Maeve still rule their respected courts, but they have found their influence have seeped out of the lands of the Celts and into other lands. It appeared that the world is filled with other people--both human and gods alike. There is no question with the mind of mortal in this version of earth about the existence of gods. Evidences of their existence is everywhere. They walk among them, mingle with them and rule over various city-state.

In fact, this version of earth isn't divided by countries as much as city-states. Each god or goddess have their own city-state, and it is only if multiple city-states ruled by gods of the same pantheon does one consider that area to be a country. Through, belonging to the same country doesn't necessary make city-states loyal to each other. They will often go to war, or stand against each other over various issues. During the passage of time, Arawn became the patron god of Cardiff.
